Description
This Snicker Apple Salad is a creamy, no-cook dessert salad that combines tart Granny Smith apples and chopped Snickers bars in a light vanilla pudding and Cool Whip base. Ready in just 10 minutes with zero cooking required, it is the ultimate make-ahead dish for potlucks, holiday tables, and backyard cookouts all year round. A drizzle of caramel sauce on top seals the deal.
Ingredients
- 3.4 oz instant vanilla pudding mix (1 standard box)
- 3/4 cup whole milk
- 8 oz Cool Whip, thawed (or 1 cup heavy whipping cream, beaten to stiff peaks)
- 6 Granny Smith apples, divided, 1 reserved for garnish
- 6 full-size Snickers bars, divided, 1 reserved for garnish
- 1/4 cup caramel sauce (optional, for drizzle)
- Splash of lemon juice or 7-Up (to prevent apple browning)
Instructions
- Make the Pudding Base: Pour 3/4 cup whole milk into a large mixing bowl. Add the instant vanilla pudding powder and whisk vigorously for 2 minutes until thick and smooth with no dry lumps remaining.
- Fold in the Whipped Topping: Add the thawed Cool Whip (or stiff-peak whipped cream) to the pudding base. Fold gently with a rubber spatula using slow, broad strokes to keep the mixture airy and light.
- Prepare the Apples: Core and chop 5 of the 6 Granny Smith apples into 3/4-inch pieces. Immediately toss with a splash of lemon juice or 7-Up to prevent browning. Pat completely dry with paper towels before using.
- Chop the Snickers: Freeze 5 of the 6 Snickers bars for 15 minutes for cleaner cuts. Chop into rough 1/2-inch bite-size pieces.
- Combine: Fold the dried apple pieces and chopped Snickers into the pudding base until everything is evenly coated. Do not stir aggressively, fold in gentle arcs.
- Chill: Cover the bowl tightly with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or up to 24 hours.
- Garnish and Serve: Just before serving, core and slice the reserved apple and chop the reserved Snickers bar. Arrange on top of the salad and finish with a generous drizzle of caramel sauce. Serve immediately.
Notes
Use exactly 3/4 cup of milk, much less than the pudding box suggests, to create a thick, mousse-like base that will not turn watery as it sits. Always pat the apple pieces completely dry after the lemon juice treatment; excess moisture is the number one reason this salad becomes runny. Freeze Snickers bars before chopping for cleaner cuts. Add the caramel drizzle at the very last moment before serving so it stays glossy and visible on top rather than absorbing into the cream layer. Real whipped cream can replace Cool Whip for a richer flavor, but Cool Whip is more stable for outdoor events lasting several hours.
