Description
This green bean casserole recipe combines tender canned green beans, a creamy mushroom soup base, and crispy French fried onions for a holiday side dish that comes together in just 40 minutes. A Thanksgiving classic since 1955, it remains one of the easiest and most beloved casserole recipes for any gathering.
Ingredients
- 2 (15-ounce) cans cut green beans, drained
- 1 (10.5-ounce) can condensed cream of mushroom soup
- ¾ cup milk
- 1 (2.8-ounce) can French fried onions, divided
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Mix the Casserole Base: Combine green beans, condensed cream of mushroom soup, milk, and half of the fried onions in a 1.5-quart casserole dish.
- Bake Until Bubbly: Bake in the preheated oven until bubbly, about 25 minutes.
- Add the Topping: Sprinkle remaining onions on top and return to the oven for 5 minutes.
- Rest and Serve: Season with salt and pepper to taste. Let rest for a few minutes before serving.
Notes
Drain the canned green beans thoroughly to avoid a watery casserole. Reserve half the fried onions for topping so they stay crisp instead of going soft. This dish can be assembled a day ahead and refrigerated without the onion topping.
