Cranberry Salsa

  • Author: Chef Abra

Description

This Cranberry Salsa with cream cheese is a fresh, sweet, and spicy holiday appetizer made with tart cranberries, zesty lime juice, and a touch of jalapeño. Perfect for Thanksgiving or Christmas, it’s an easy, make-ahead dip that brings color and festive flavor to every table.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 ounces fresh cranberries
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 1 jalapeño, seeded and chopped (leave seeds for extra heat)
  • 1/2 cup fresh cilantro
  • 4 green onions
  • 2 tablespoons lime juice
  • Pinch of salt
  • 2 (8-ounce) blocks of cream cheese

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Cranberries: Rinse and drain fresh cranberries well. Pat dry to remove any excess moisture.
  2. Combine Ingredients: In a food processor, add cranberries, sugar, jalapeño, cilantro, green onions, lime juice, and a pinch of salt.
  3. Pulse the Mixture: Pulse several times until finely chopped but not pureed. You want a slightly chunky texture for the best results.
  4. Chill to Develop Flavor: Transfer the salsa to a bowl, cover, and refrigerate for at least 2 hours (overnight is even better). This helps the sugar soften the cranberries and blend the flavors.
  5. Serve: Spoon the chilled cranberry salsa over a block of cream cheese or spread the cream cheese on a platter and top with salsa. Serve with crackers or pita chips.

Notes

For a milder salsa, remove the jalapeño seeds. For more heat, leave them in or use two peppers. This salsa keeps in the fridge for up to 7 days and can be frozen for up to 2 months. Stir before serving if liquid separates. Try pairing with Triscuits, Wheat Thins, or use leftovers in a turkey sandwich.
