Description
These warm, golden baked soft pretzels are soft inside with a delicious chewy crust. You can make them from basic pantry ingredients in just 30 minutes, perfect for a snack, party appetizer, or cozy baking project.
Ingredients
- 1 cup warm water
- 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 2 cups hot water
- 1/4 cup baking soda
- Coarse salt for topping
- Cheese dip or cinnamon butter for serving

Instructions
Activate Yeast: Combine warm water and yeast in a bowl. Let stand for 5 minutes until bubbly.
Make the Dough: Stir in sugar, salt, and flour a little at a time until a dough forms. Knead until smooth and elastic.

Let It Rise: Coat the dough lightly in oil, cover, and set aside until doubled in size.
Shape Pretzels: Divide the dough, roll each piece into a long rope, and twist into the classic pretzel shape.

Prepare Soda Bath: Mix baking soda into hot water. Dip each pretzel briefly, then place on a parchment-lined sheet.

Bake: Bake at 450°F for 8–10 minutes until golden. Brush with melted butter if desired.

Serve: Enjoy warm with your favorite dip or topping.

Notes
You can create sweet or savory versions easily. For dessert-style pretzels, brush with butter and roll in cinnamon sugar. Unbaked pretzels freeze beautifully for up to 2 months, bake straight from frozen when needed.
